Canada never got the Dodge Neon, instead we had the Dodge SX 2.0 and the Chrysler Neon.

In the UK we got the Chrysler Neon, not Dodge. No one bought them though.

Looks like consumers in the UK are wiser than Americans.

USA got the Chrysler Neon as well.

to be fair, the Americans didn’t have much choice, whereas the most popular european cars oof the time were similarly sized, more efficient and less shitty inside.

I don’t think that’s right.

Actually, it was the Plymouth Neon.

It was similar in the Netherlands. They were available here, as Chryslers, but no one bought them.

We bought a few, along with the Chrysler Voyager people carrier.
The Neon disappeared as soon as sales stopped because second hand buyers didn’t want a car with a 2 litre petrol engine. You still see the odd Voyager.

Voyagers were sold here in somewhat significant numbers, unlike the Neon. Sales plummeted after 2007 or so, but it was a strong seller before with a market share of 0.3-0.4% or so since 1990. Another Chrysler that sold decently was the PT Cruiser. Mostly because it was, well, different . They sold well in 2000/2001/2002 (0.3%), and then sales dropped quickly each year.
Chrysler market share in the Netherlands:

The Neon was sold by Plymouth, Chrysler AND Dodge throughout the decade it was sold for.
I used to have one. It got totaled by someone who ran a light, and I have much nicer toys now.

Funny to see a graph peaking at 0.97%!

We are talking about Chrysler here.
Subaru has another nice graph.
This one is a bit sadder:

My friend had a ‘98 Plymouth Neon and she didn't change the oil for six years. It still runs to this day.

I actually drove a first-generation one yesterday or Friday (I think it was Friday) around the lot at work. For what it is, it’s not terrible, and I would have much preferred one to its contemporary Chevy crapalier/ ponti-ick sunfire, but that would never have been a consideration with the Mazda Protege, Ford Escort, corolla (before they were totally devoid of charm or character), and Civic (ditto) available. I might have picked a Neon over a Mitsubishi Mirage, Hyundai Accent, or Suzuki Swift (though the Hyundai did have a better warranty, still do, actually). Definitely wouldn’t have picked a Daewoo or Saturn.
Thankfully pretty much all.cars offered in the US are much better overall than their predecessors. Even including the Mitsubishi Mirage and Smart ForTwo, there’s no truly terrible car currently sold new here. Unappealing, ugly, and uninspired, sure, but none is truly terrible.

Plymouth Neon cough cough.

I’m pretty sure that isn’t right. My brother had a Neon that said Dodge on the back. It was the same generation as the red one you posted.

It could’ve been brought over from the States, or an SX 2.0

It looked like this. I’m pretty sure it was a Canadian car. It definitely wasn’t an SX 2.0.
Wikipedia says “The car was badged and sold as both a Dodge and a Plymouth in the United States and Canada ”. for the first generation ( source ).

Huh, thought it was Chrysler and Plymouth only, I pretty much never see Dodge-badged models

The ownership did say Plymouth I think. But I’m pretty certain it was originally badged dodge. My cousin had the last generation one and it did say sx2.0

Canada had the Dodge and the Plymouth Neon at some point (first-gen).
‘’ The car was
badged and sold
as both a Dodge and a Plymouth in the
United States
and
Canada
; in Mexico, Europe, Australia and other export markets it was sold as the
Chrysler Neon
. ‘’
As per Wikipedia.
Also, personal trivia: my grandmother had a Plymouth neon, and she managed to blow the headgasket off the engine without driving the car.
Fun times.

I own a 1998 Dodge Neon, it was bought in Canada from a Canadian Dodge dealer 17 years ago. It’s definitely called a Neon not an SX 2.0, and it’s definitely a Dodge. I believe the SX 2.0 was the second generation Neon.
